In The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>, protagonist Andy Sachs refers to Runway\u2019s willowy fleet of fashion-mad staffers as \u201cclackers,\u201d evoking the sound of their impossibly high heels skittering across the office floors.<\/p>\n Well, while there is certainly some clacking at the start of our May 2026 cover<\/a> video, these two are no Elias-Clark sycophants. As Meryl Streep (in character as DWP<\/em>\u2019s Miranda Priestly) and Vogue<\/em>\u2019s Anna Wintour meet at a sleek white elevator, the two women\u2014the top brass of glossies both imagined and very real\u2014can\u2019t resist sizing each other up. In the 2003 novel, it\u2019s suggested they are rivals: after Miranda fires Andy in Paris, her other assistant, Emily, encourages Andy to send her r\u00e9sum\u00e9 \u201cover to Anna Wintour\u2014they\u2019ve never liked each other very much.\u201d But more than 20 years after the book and its era-defining film adaptation, the two struggle to place each other.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t I know you from somewhere?\u201d Priestly asks.<\/p>\n \u201cYou do look\u2026 familiar,\u201d comes Wintour\u2019s curious reply.<\/p>\n
