I am very much enjoying Anne Hathaway\u2019s Certified Weird-Girl Era, typified by her role as a world-famous pop star in a bizarre psychosexual relationship with her former costumer in Mother Mary<\/em>. I mean, Hathaway, Michaela Coel<\/a>, a brief but wonderful glimpse of Hunter Schafer<\/a>, and a bounty of incredible looks<\/a>? Sign me up!<\/p>\n

Below, find (quite literally) every thought I had while watching Mother Mary<\/em>:<\/p>\n

  1. Why does Anne Hathaway look like Toni Collette in this movie?<\/li>\n
  2. To be clear, that\u2019s not remotely a bad thing.<\/li>\n
  3. I want Michaela Coel to say to me: \u201cYou are a tumor.\u201d<\/li>\n
  4. OMG, this sparkly lid!<\/li>\n
  5. Does Hathaway do her own singing in this movie?<\/li>\n
  6. Wow, I googled it and: yes!<\/li>\n
  7. I mean, let us not forget, she\u2019s got the pipes.<\/a><\/li>\n
  8. If Anne Hathaway actually rebranded as a Lady Gaga-style pop star, I would be\u2026the happiest girl alive.<\/li>\n
  9. This particular song she\u2019s performing isn\u2019t really giving \u201cchart-topping banger,\u201d but I have faith.<\/li>\n
  10. Oh, I\u2019m getting a lot of Black Swan<\/em> from this movie already.<\/li>\n
  11. And you\u2019ll never catch me complaining!<\/li>\n
  12. I\u2019ve always liked Anne Hathaway blonde, ever since Rachel Getting Married<\/em> (a perfect film, in my opinion, if not a perfect dye job).<\/li>\n
  13. OMG, Hunter Schafer!<\/li>\n
  14. All this drama over a dress\u2026Met Gala<\/a> boots!<\/li>\n
  15. Mary once wore raw honey down the red carpet? So meat dress-core.<\/li>\n
  16. Also, it fights infection!<\/a><\/li>\n
  17. God, the chemistry between Hathaway and Coel simply rocks.<\/li>\n
  18. \u201cNo halo.\u201d \u201cAt all?\u201d LOL.<\/li>\n
  19. All right, this soundtrack is officially starting to bang.<\/li>\n
  20. Which makes sense, since Charli XCX, FKA twigs, and Jack Antonoff<\/a> are behind it.<\/li>\n
  21. I guess Antonoff needed to change up his SEO this week!<\/a><\/li>\n
  22. Ooh, pop star beef.<\/li>\n
  23. There\u2019s room for everyone, girlies!<\/li>\n
  24. OMG, Michaela\u2014whose character\u2019s name is actually Sam, sorry\u2014doesn\u2019t listen to Mary\u2019s music?<\/li>\n

  27. Shit\u2019s getting weird!<\/li>\n
  28. I love how nonplussed Sam is by this weird semi-dance, semi-collapse.<\/li>\n
  29. Oh, now this<\/em> is a bop!<\/li>\n
  30. \u201cYou\u2019re obliterating yourself.\u201d Woof.<\/li>\n
  31. It\u2019s crazy that we\u2019ve essentially been in this one room for the entirety of this movie.<\/li>\n
  32. I appreciate how seriously Sam takes her mission of bringing pop music costumery to life.<\/li>\n
  33. An interesting question being raised: who owns a dress more, the person who makes it or the person who wears it?<\/li>\n
  34. \u201cI liked how it felt when you dressed me.\u201d<\/li>\n
  35. Are thinks getting\u2026gay<\/em>?<\/li>\n
  36. Sam really said: \u201cI needed to lose you to love me.\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n
  37. I love how British people say \u201ctelly.\u201d<\/li>\n
  38. This dynamic is kind of reminding me of the relationship between the pop star and the assistant\/protagonist in Zadie Smith\u2019s Swing Time<\/em>.<\/a><\/li>\n
  39. Crying, accessing the sublime, and fleeing before the encore at a pop diva\u2019s concert\u2026Sam, you\u2019re so relatable for this.<\/li>\n
  40. Okay, not so much with the tooth removal, though.<\/li>\n
  41. Ah, okay, fantasy sequence.<\/li>\n
  42. Ghost story time!<\/li>\n
  43. I do not believe that Sam ever stopped thinking about Mary, personally.<\/li>\n
  44. \u201cWhere do ghosts go when you don\u2019t need them anymore?\u201d<\/li>\n
  45. Okay, I\u2019m rocking with this hint of The Craft<\/em>-style supernatural weirdness.<\/li>\n
  46. Twigs working<\/em> the extremely weird and scary role of Imogen, I must say.<\/li>\n
  47. Ew! Stab wound!<\/li>\n
  48. Kind of a sapphic one, too, if I may say.<\/li>\n
  49. Anne Hathaway bathing and bandaging herself in a clean white tub? Sure, why not.<\/li>\n
  50. Halo time!<\/li>\n
  51. Okay, my lack of love for concerts (except for Lorde<\/a> ones!!!!) is extending to this extended Mother Mary performance sequence, I fear.<\/li>\n
  52. Oop, sexy ribbon-cutting time.<\/li>\n
  53. \u201cOur house is full\u201d does kind of seem like something that would work to get rid of a ghost.<\/li>\n

  56. I want Hunter Schafer to describe a pop concert to me in full.<\/li>\n

  58. I feel like it shares DNA with the James Holt one that Miranda Priestly hates<\/a> in The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>, a little bit.<\/li>\n
  59. Well, that was very\u2026The Phantom Thread<\/em> meets Heavenly Creatures<\/em>, or something!<\/li>\n
