Not anymore\u2014Dakota Johnson<\/a> has ditched her deep brunette hair color for something brighter\u2014and Vogue<\/em> heard about it straight from the woman who completed the transformation.<\/p>\n \u201cThe color is what I call a \u2018dirty blonde,\u201d says celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a soft, low-contrast blonde that blends cool, creamy tones with a subtle brunette undertone at the root. It\u2019s not overly bright or high-maintenance. Instead, it has a diffused, dimensional quality that feels very natural and expensive.\u201d<\/p>\n Cunningham used a technique that fellow colorist Kari Hill<\/a> created while nailing Sarah Pigeon\u2019s perfect Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy blonde<\/a> for the limited series Love Story<\/em>. \u201cRather than relying on traditional balayage or hair painting, Johnson\u2019s color was created through a combination of precision foiling and tailored color work for a more refined, dimensional result,\u201d Cunningham says. The Schwarzkopf creative director of color used the brand\u2019s Blondme Premium Lightener to \u201cselectively lift specific strands of Dakota\u2019s natural brunette base, focusing on controlled, strategic placement rather than overall lightening.\u201d From there, she toned with the medium-blonde shade of Igora Vibrance to create dimension while it still felt blended.<\/p>\n Overall, it\u2019s a brighter summer beauty look for the actor. \u201cDakota has always had incredibly recognizable hair; it\u2019s part of her identity,\u201d says Cunningham. \u201cThere\u2019s a simplicity and polish to it that feels timeless, but also very modern.
