Chanel-o-holics may have barely just broken in their cap-toed pumps from Matthieu Blazy\u2019s debut Chanel collection<\/a>, but the designer is already onto the next conversation-starting shoe\u2014or maybe it\u2019s a lack thereof?<\/p>\n Yesterday Chanel<\/a> presented its resort 2027 collection<\/a> in Biarritz, where, among the mermaid-esque paillettes and logo\u2019d swimcaps were pairs of particularly freaky shoes that got the Internet chattering: heels tied to models\u2019 feet\u2014not a sole in sight.<\/p>\n Vogue<\/em> staffers\u2014like many members of the fashion community\u2014were instantly intrigued by these semi-barefoot shoes. Where would one wear these? Who<\/em> would wear these? How did we get to this phalange-filled moment? Here, four Vogue<\/em> writers go t\u00eate-\u00e0-t\u00eate\u2014or, rather, pied-\u00e0-pied\u2014on Chanel\u2019s entry into the freaky shoe arena.<\/p>\n To shoe or not to shoe? While I\u2019m admittedly an entry-level shoe freak, I think they\u2019re the easiest way to add intrigue to any outfit. My current go-to are my Tory Burch open-toed monkstraps.<\/p>\n Anna Cafolla:<\/strong> A self-annointed split-toe savant. My favorite pair\u2014Margiela Tabi, low-heeled ballerinas\u2014are currently being held hostage by my cobbler, who is searching for the wooden shoebox splint needed for their repair. The Tabi collection is very<\/em> well-loved.<\/p>\n Max Berlinger:<\/strong> I like the idea of a freaky shoe for someone else, but I pretty much stick to Vans slip-ons for myself. But I love seeing a really wild shoe on the runway\u2014I still remember the awe I felt when I saw those McQueen armadillo shoes come down the catwalk for the first time. And I deeply respect anyone taking a big swing with a shoe.<\/p>\n Christian Allaire:<\/strong> Always enjoy an off-kilter shoe. It\u2019s a low-lift way to instantly inject your look with some personality. Why be basic when you can be bold<\/em>.<\/p>\n What was your immediate reaction when the shoe hit the Chanel runway?<\/strong><\/p>\n HJ:<\/strong> Admittedly, I was more focused on the fish gill headpieces and swimming caps, but once my eyes finally made it down to the models\u2019 feet, I was totally delighted. What a cheeky, fun idea. Blazy isn\u2019t trying to convince anyone that these are practical, but sometimes the whimsy is the entire point.<\/p>\n CA:<\/strong> I always enjoy a runway shoe that doesn\u2019t lean into comfort or practicality\u2014we\u2019re supposed to be enjoying a fantasy<\/em> here.
