{"id":29618,"date":"2026-05-19T18:46:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hunthow.com\/?p=29618"},"modified":"2026-05-19T18:46:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T18:46:15","slug":"hoyeon-entered-her-movie-star-era-at-the-cannes-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hunthow.com\/?p=29618","title":{"rendered":"Hoyeon Entered Her Movie Star Era at the Cannes Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-journey-hook=\"client-content\" data-testid=\"BodyWrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>Hoyeon has already lived plenty of lives in the spotlight\u2014rising from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/squid-game-star-hoyeon-jung-interview\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">top runway model<\/a> (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/hoyeon-jung-squid-game-actress-cover-story-profile\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\"><em>Vogue<\/em> cover star<\/a>), to a full-on TV star (you may have caught her in <em>Squid Game<\/em> or <em>Disclaimer).<\/em> But now, the South Korean star is ready to move into the next exciting phase of her career: Movie star.<\/p>\n<p>For this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/slideshow\/2026-cannes-film-festival-red-carpet-looks\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">Cannes Film Festival<\/a>, Hoyeon attended the photo call and screening for her new, Na Hong-jin-directed thriller <em>Hope<\/em>, in which she stars alongside Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. \u201cI\u2019m just so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to present my new film at such a\u00a0global festival,\u201d says Hoyeon. \u201calongside audiences from all over the world who truly love cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Hope<\/em>, Hoyeon portrays Sung-ae, a rookie cop who teams up with a police chief (Hwang Jung-min) to defeat a mysterious monster wreaking havoc on a South Korean village. \u201cWorking on <em>Hope<\/em> is one of the experiences I feel most attached to,\u201d says Hoyeon of the new acting challenge. \u201cI dedicated a lot of\u00a0time and effort to preparing for this character\u2014probably the most preparation I\u2019ve ever done in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"AssetEmbedWrapper-iJvQnD cOWUYC asset-embed\">\n<div class=\"CaptionWrapper-bpPcvW eYfKPE caption AssetEmbedCaption-eZIMNW gMgneI asset-embed__caption\" data-testid=\"caption-wrapper\"><span class=\"BaseText-fEwdHD CaptionText-cQpRdU ecFqk hbiMYj caption__text\"><\/p>\n<p>With my peers and director Na!<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"BaseText-fEwdHD CaptionCredit-cUgOGk eHhdnE hRFzlA caption__credit\">Video: Courtesy of Hoyeon<\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Though Hyeon is no stranger to an action sequence\u2014having famously fought for her life as Kang Sae-byeok in <em>Squid Game<\/em>\u2014she admits that her training for <em>Hope<\/em> took things to a whole new level. (Being an action star, it turns out, is no small feat.) \u201cTo perform the action scenes in the film, I spent about five to six months training before shooting began,\u201d says Hoyeon. \u201cI went through physical training, firearms training, earned a manual driving license, and learned various car action techniques. Because I performed most of the action scenes myself. I hope audiences can truly feel the tension, energy, and sincerity I brought to the role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cm-unit\/><\/p>\n<p>One of her favorite memories from set? Filming an intensive action sequence involving driving a high-speed car, a scene that required her to overcome a major mental hurdle. \u201cI felt a lot of pressure and anxiety about whether I could really pull it off,\u201d says Hoyeon. \u201cSeveral crew members kept giving me notes about safety checks and technical details, so my head became crowded with too much information, and I started losing focus.
