Just ask primary care doctor and longevity specialist <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.dramandakahn.com\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.dramandakahn.com\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dramandakahn.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amanda Kahn, MD<\/a>, who has a tip for bone health that she\u2019s implemented into her own life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdding a little bit of resistance to your daily routine can help when it comes to bone and spine health,\u201d Dr. Kahn says. \u201cI like to rollerblade with wrist and ankle weights, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/weighted-vest\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">in a weighted vest,<\/a> too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while Dr. Khan jokes she \u201clooks totally nuts,\u201d with all her weighted gear on, it\u2019s worth it. <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6279907\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">Studies<\/a> have shown that weight training is a way to concurrently prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/improve-your-bone-health\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">osteoporosis<\/a> (bone weakening) and sarcopenia (muscle loss). Women typically are reach their peak bone mass around age 30\u2014from there, it\u2019s lighter, more breakable bones.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s where weight-bearing exercises can help. Whether you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/chi-osse-is-powerlifting-his-way-through-politics\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">power lifting<\/a> or just going to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/strength-training-women\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\">strength training classes,<\/a> it all can help you maintian bone mass. And smaller, more calculated moves can help too (though, Dr. Khan notes, ankle and wrists weights or a weighted vest should be the cherry on top of a routine, not the entire sundae).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can be really hard to do daily tasks in wrist or ankle weights,\u201d she says, adding that she\u2019ll pop them on while doing activities like blow-drying her hair. \u201cLongevity can meet people where they are.
