Feels Like a Steal: Citizens of Humanity’s Colorful Denim
Bold color is one of spring 2026’s loudest trends—we’ve saw it first as cool color-blocking on the runway (Jil Sander, Prada) then spun off to the street style set (from Vogue’s Chloe Malle to fashion fixture Jalil Johnson) where the season’s standout shades vied for attention: cobalt blue, royal purple, chartreuse, and cherry red.
Not one to typically stray from my roster of neutrals—or go all in on a head-to-toe color moment—I’ve been easing into the trend by way of colorful denim. Luckily, both the spring runways and contemporary brands have made the case. From Chloé’s lilac pastel jeans to pale pink pairs from Agolde’s collaboration with New York-based label Maria McManus, and even Slvrlake’s butter-yellow barrel legs (which I shamelessly pre-ordered months ago from Moda Operandi), the options are as varied as they are compelling.
Still, none feel quite as versatile as this beige mid-rise barrel jean from Citizens of Humanity—the perfect balance between bold and understated. With a relaxed yet refined fit, they anchor any transitional look, whether styled with a khaki trench, lightweight knit, and ballet flats—or with a billowy blouse, raffia tote, and open-toe sandals once temperatures rise. (Just be sure to keep your slouchy leather jacket on standby.)
And at under $300, they feel like the ultimate fashion steal—ticking off two of spring 2026’s biggest trends in one: directional denim and a subtle embrace of color. Consider it your cue to break out of neutrals—for now, at least.—Laura Lillian Jackson Nalle, contributing editor
Toteme’s Little Black Dress
Known for its effortlessly chic sensibility, Toteme bridges New York’s on-the-go attitude with Stockholm’s studied restraint—making it a go-to for the kind of essentials that work overtime in your wardrobe. This spring, it’s their little black dresses that caught my eye: clean, unfussy, and endlessly wearable. The appeal lies in its simplicity. Streamlined yet polished, it’s the kind of piece that moves seamlessly from day to night with infinite styling potential—worn with ballet flats and a sweater draped over the shoulders by day, then finished with a red lip and statement earrings for after hours. The pleated, swingy silhouette, with its subtle nod to CBK’s pared-back uniform, feels especially of the moment, and priced just under $300, making it a wardrobe investment without the splurge. Minimal, versatile, and quietly refined, it’s the kind of dress you’ll reach for on repeat. —Minty Mellon, shopping market editor
