Some Bunny to Love: A Brief History of Fashion’s Fascination with Rabbits Ahead of Easter Weekend
It’s Easter weekend which means we’ll be celebrating with egg hunts, festive brunches, and, if we’re lucky, a visit from the Easter Bunny. We aren’t the only ones with a soft spot. Bunnies are a favorite reference for all sorts of designers, be it Louis Vuitton-era Marc Jacobs, whose flirtatious headdress for fall 2009 was later worn by Madonna at the Met Gala, or Stella McCartney who sent a costumed cottontail hippity-hoppitying down her runway for fall 2020.
In 2023 it was the year of the rabbit, and the references multiplied like, yes, rabbits from S.S. Daley in London to Ambush in Tokyo. Model Hoyeon Jung has played a bunny not once but twice, first at Jeremy Scott’s spring 2018 menswear show for Moschino and then again at Schiaparelli’s fall 2018 couture show. And that suspiciously tall hare at Marni? That was former creative director Francesco Risso himself. Below, the best bunnies on the runways.
