With bright, oversized windows, terracotta floors, and exposed beams, this charming place is a tranquil reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the main strip in Cannes. Once a fisherman’s house, the simple decor is restrained to highlight the Mediterranean architecture. There’s a balcony that’s just big enough for two, with a bistro table you can set up for an apéritif with an array of farmers’ market snacks (the well-known Marché Forville is a ten minute walk)—though given that the beach is only a few streets away, you could also take your picnic to go.

This refurbished 16th-century home in medieval Saint Paul de Vence is every bit the Mediterranean dream, right down to the French bed linens and the abundance of miscellaneous antique vessels (make sure you leave space in your suitcase for souvenirs from the local brocante). Each of the rooms has its own en-suite bathroom, making this an ideal place for a larger group trip—it has both indoor and outdoor dining spaces, so you’ll never have to leave if you don’t want to. (Although the beach is only a 20 minute drive away and well worth the journey.)
